A really interesting account of cultural fusion and tradition, Besanya. I remember the first time I came across the term 'Nuyorican' - I was browsing through baskets of bargain CDs at Tower Records in London, and spotted one called 'Nuyorican Soul'.

It sounded intriguing, and I guessed it must refer to a NY Latin style of music, so picked it up. Fascinating stuff! A real big city bustle and hustle vibe to it, but loads of smooth soul as well. I loved it. It was only later that I discovered the more specific meaning of Nuyorican, which I should have guessed.

No idea where that CD is now - half a dozen house moves later - but I just dug it out on Spotify. It turns out India is featured as a guest artist. I'll have a listen to her tracks later - thanks for the pointer.
