Agreed. I will usually leave a private note thanking the writer for their submission, and when it goes live, clap and leave at least one comment, often several. After all, by definition their article is in my area of interest and is well-written enough for me to have chosen to publish.

Even if it weren't on my own publication - hence it being in my own interest as publisher to get the engagement ball rolling - I would clap and comment in such circumstances.

Scheduling is a bit of a problem - Medium should let editors 'pre-clap' and 'pre-comment' for when it goes live, as you might not be around to do so at the time in question, as that is one of the points of scheduling.

But in that case, I would put a private note to let them know about the scheduling.

If you're publishing so many stories a day that you don't have time for that, then you're McDonald's, not a neighbourhood bistro, and have outgrown your usefulness.
