Although some people do love it, specifically because it is outdoors, working with soil and plants - elements from which we are so often isolated in modern cities and society. Gruelling in very cold/hot weather, of course, and as you say, not paid as it should be (and hence socially undervalued, given the false equivalence in a capitalist society between wages and worth).

And also something that while we can all do it in theory, is probably more effectively done, with a more productive outcome, by a professional.

My embarrassing tangle of poorly pruned tomato plants would definitely vouch for that last point.
