Although they put the explanatory article in the staff picks, I'm not sure they have publicised this as much as they might have. It will spread organically, I suppose, as people notice others have added pronouns, and discover how to do it. And I presume it will now be a more obvious feature during initial profile creation for new users.
But I only knew about it because they sent an email to nominators as part of the initial roll-out, presumably because (a) they wanted a small sample of standard users to check it was working OK, and (b) they weren't fearful of a backlash from that group when explicitly promoting the feature, since we are committed members of the community, and are at least partly in their pay, as 'semi-staff', so even a reactionary blowhard nominator would keep quiet about it.
To get mass adoption, they would need to email all users, and are perhaps fearful that the rightwing trolls - of whom there seem to be few here but some always sneak in - would kick off about it.
Useful to have articles like yours to keep spreading the word, since many of us by default kind of ignore the staff picks sitting in the corner of our screen.
