Always a worry when travelling. I would say that in Spain, the best value will tend to be a set 'menu del día', which often works out no more than half the price of those same dishes if ordered à la carte.

It's also an option which tends to mark a place out as more 'frequented by real locals', which itself improves the value for money ratio.
