Another very moving fiesta in coastal communities is la Virgen del Carmen in August, as she is the patron of mariners, and blesses the fleet to keep them safe from harm for the next year, often in a ceremony performed partly on land, partly at sea, with the effigy arriving in the harbour on board one of the local fishing boats.
