Arepas were my first introduction to Venezuelan food, at a snack bar next to the hotel I stayed in for a night in La Guaira after flying in from the UK. I still make them sometimes, having perfected the art even after a few too many bottles of Polar. My corner shop here in Spain sells harina PAN.

But cachapas were my absolute favourite - I still get cravings for them, nearly 30 years later!
