As a general rule, I will not click on any title that deliberately omits a key point to make you click so as to find out what the revelatory secret is.

'I Read This Book and it Changed My Life', for example. If 'This Book' is the focus of your article, it should, by definition, be named in the headline. It's taunting and trying to exploit the reader, in the same way that advertisers do. Once you lower yourself to the level of advertisers, your thoughts are of no interest to me.

The Huffington Post was the first news platform I noticed always using this 'teaser' headline approach for news stories.

Presumably most/many people don't mind it, or even like it. But for me it's a no-no.

I'm sure the authors couldn't care less, although if everyone who objects to it simply clicks on their story here and then clicks out, that will eventually affect their read ratio and distribution.
