Catalan/Valencian have the same strong vowel accenting rules with an '-ia' at the end of a word as Portuguese, and unlike Spanish, which can be confusing.
The town where I live, La Nucia, is officially written that way, as it adopted the Valencian rather than Spanish form. So whenever anyone from elsewhere in Spain phones up and reads it out, they will say La NOO-cia, rather than La Nu-CI-a, as for them the accent is missing to stress the 'i'. It makes it sound a little like 'la nutria', 'the otter' , which I quite like.
