'Choice' is a relative concept, though. If you know that your life in your country of birth - and the life that awaits your children - is one without prospects because of the economic and political system, locally and globally, do you really have a choice but to move?

There may be no civil war raging, no secret police or religious lynch mob beating down your door, but your country is effectively saying: if you 'choose' to stay here, your life will be a misery.

There are many millions who would prefer to say in their homeland, with their loved ones, but who see no practical option - especially for their children's futures - but to leave.
