Exactly. It makes no sense. It is inherently illogical and unfair, and in fact discourages writers from making the effort to produce quality stories. When people raised this over a year ago, Buster Benson, whose deceased Medium presence can now only be contacted via an actual medium, said something like 'Yeah, we're aware of this being a problem and will be revising the formula'. (I might be fever-dreaming this, which does happen, but I'm pretty darned sure.)
