Funnily enough, 'guiri' (pronounced 'giri' with hard 'g' as in Japanese) means 'foreigner' in Spanish slang, kind of like the Mexican 'gringo' or Japanese 'gaijin'.

If more long-term 'guiri' residents of Spain and France in particular had been allowed to vote in that referendum, it might have been giri-giri the other way...
