Galicia in NW Spain is not dissimilar in parts. I remember that the Rough Guide travel book to the region complained that there were too many tractors and not enough oxen and donkeys. It wasn't 'quaint' enough for them. No suggestions of whether the writers would be willing to plough a field or take a wagonload of produce to market with nothing but beasts of burden for traction at 6 am in the driving rain, as part of a campaign to restore the quaintness.
