Here in Spain we used to get this build-up of heat over the course of August that would then tend to break in a series of massive thunderstorms towards the end of August. The temperature would then ease off a few degrees, and you would enter the final stage of summer, the most pleasant in terms of weather, to be honest.

But lately that doesn't seem to be happening. The breakpoint either doesn't come, or it does but later, and differently. And winter doesn't happen until at least mid-January.

It's like the seasons are on borrowed time, constantly trying to catch up with the overshoot from last year.
