Hi, Lisa. I've been living in Spain for 20-odd years now. It used to be 'just another part of Europe', which is what I consider to be my homeland, rather than any nation state. Though that situation has changed somewhat - politically, but not philosophically.

Geographically it's not so far. If I had more time - and were less reluctant to fly - I would see family and friends in the UK more. But I can't see myself inflicting the UK on my family just for the sake of that convenience.

We had always assumed that when my mother needed to be closer to us, she would simply move out here. That is now complicated by the issue of post-Brexit healthcare, but is not insurmountable.
