I fell into the car review rabbit hole before we bought our last car, 8 or 9 years ago. I found the earnestness of the presenters quite beguiling - every detail of every model seemed to matter to them.
And the casual use of words like 'bin' and 'well' and 'stem' in contexts strangely unfamiliar. I actually started to develop favourites (which YouTube no doubt picked up on). There was one who took a 2-litre water bottle on all her test drives, as the yardstick (mixed measurement metaphor alert!) for how capacious the storage in the door 'bins' was. I liked that, but didn't adopt the practice when visiting car showrooms. We only went to two, in fact. Both cars had the requisite 4 wheels, an engine, some seats and a large boot for useless clutter, so it came down to a coin toss in the end.
