I find morning coffee to be useful only for the spadework of my day job. I need to get at least a few hours of 'work work' done before I can then switch to writing something personal.

Part of this is just to get the mechanical elements of tapping out wordblocks pumping, I think, and part that I don't normally allow myself the luxury of writing for myself until I've got some paid work under my belt. And no, $1.47 for an article does not count as 'pay'...

But evenings after I clock off from the home office grind are the best time. If there's enough physical energy left in the tank, that's when my mental powers are most accessible.
