I love the way the flora and traditions of the Mediterranean basin link us all together on all sides, despite everything. The olives and carobs, the fishing fleets and ancient trade routes, the Roman heritage. A harmonious whole, at heart, no matter how riven and disparate in the current age. And harmony and fraternity will one day reign again in the cradle of so much of human civilisation. I try so hard to believe that as I gaze out over the waters of the Mediterranean from Eastern Spain.
