I only really have one playlist - everything all mashed up together in a big bucket. If I feel the need for music as a mood changer or distraction, I'll just put that on random, and skip through till I find a suitable starting point, then let the cosmos flow from there.
I think that being of the radio generation - radio would maintain battery life far longer than cassette mode when in the garden or out and about - I find random selections of music reassuring. They surprise, amuse, intrigue - at times infuriate - but above all free one's conscious self of all curatorial responsibility, which is comforting in itself.
