I read a snippet of an interview with a Trump supporter prior to the election.
He was a small-scale furniture maker, and said 'Before Trump's tariffs, Chinese plywood cost $5 a square yard (or whatever price and unit of measure it was) and US plywood $20. I couldn't afford to buy US plywood at a markup of $15 so I had to import, though I hated doing it. Then Trump brought his tariffs in and the Chinese stuff went up to $15 - only a $5 difference, so finally I could buy American. That's why I'm voting Trump.'
That was his logic.
How does one attempt to reason with such magical thinking? From an actual businessman talking about input costs and profit margins!
