I sometimes wonder why Spain imports all its telenovelas from Latin America. Is it out of a sense of post-colonial guilt (as with Neighbours and Home & Away in the UK, perhaps)? Because they think it's beneath them to make homegrown soaps? The standard of other Spanish TV output makes that seem unlikely.
