I think there is plenty of scope for justified civil disobedience along the spectrum from 'doing nothing' to 'killing people'.

That said, many clearly feel there is more than a degree of justification on grounds of 'popular self-defence' or 'collective retribution' in this act.

I doubt many of those espousing such views - above all online - would actually wish to see the argument taken to its logical conclusion of citizens meting out vengeance, Judge Dredd style, on all those corporate figures they believe to have wronged them personally and society at large (which would result in quite a bloodbath even by insouciantly violent US standards), but the undercurrent of sentiment to encourage some more moderate form of collective action certainly exists.

Japan, however, is one of the last societies where I would expect that to happen. Then again, Japan provides universal public healthcare to its population, as all civilised, wealthy countries do. With one glaring exception...
