I was lucky enough to stumble upon La Boquería in Barcelona before it became a must-see attraction in its own right. I would go there every morning for a coffee at one of the cafeteria stands and just wander around. I can't imagine the experience is anything like the same now, though the city has plenty of other similar markets in other neighbourhoods.
