I would bet 45 bucks on it. More, in fact.
The system tacitly encourages this anyway - prioritising certain pubs and encouraging them to establish clearer brand identities and voices, more like traditional media outlets.
Showcasing particular 'columnists' is a natural urge as part of this process, both to establish that branding, and to retain those successful writers.
There is one pub I write for, which has boosted me a few times. I wouldn't now dream of submitting similar pieces elsewhere - it makes no sense for me as I have a high chance of boosting at pub A, opposed to an unknown, almost certainly much, much lower chance at similarly themed pub B.
Yes, there is also a very good relationship with nominating owner A. Ultimately that counts for far more.
But the reciprocal boost-friendly environment cements the connection.
I remain dubious as to how this inevitable tendency towards consolidation and promotion of a small, select group (of pubs and their contributors) helps 'ensure hidden talents are uncovered and showcased'.
Perhaps a more extensive roll-out in 2024 will change that. I hope so - that is the stated aim.
But as I say - and you corroborate from your experience and perceptions - there are psychological and economic factors that would tend to acts as barriers to that ambition.
