In Spain the devil is associated in particular with Roman aqueducts. Both the Segovia and Tarragona aqueducts are supposed by legend to have been built by the devil in a single night.

Presumably the origin of these legends is that Christians in the Dark Ages could not conceive of any such feat of engineering being achieved without diabolical assistance.
