Indeed. What has been shockingly sad to see in the UK recently has been politicians (Patel, Sunak, Braverman) whose parents emigrated from the Indian subcontinent to Africa in search of a better life, and from there to Britain, fleeing nativist hostility in their African host countries, now turning on immigrants and refugees in the UK itself, and whipping up hatred and violence against them with intemperate rhetoric.
The very opposite of what the process of cultural integration should mean, in gradually giving an 'ancient land of storied pomp' a more open and global view of the world.
Britain was more welcoming and tolerant of migrant Jews and Huguenots from Spain and France 300-400 years ago than it would be now. Social progress in reverse.
