Medium, having demonstrated its serial incompetence in multiple aspects of running the platform over the past year, claims unconvincingly it is somehow, despite giving no signs of the methodological or technological capability to do so, going to fix fraud issues.
Fixed that for you, Debra!
I'm half joking. Well, a sixteenth, maybe. Seriously - if they had a clue what they were doing, and if they had the means to address the problems they face, would they be in this situation now?
Let's be honest - what kind of responsible custodian of a business would be shelling out $250 for a story with 400 reads (nommer's fee + boosted writer earnings), just a month before realising 'Shit! We've run out of cash! From now on it's $0.001 [sic] per read!'?
What kind of senior developer says 'Yeah, we're really struggling with AI posts, bot, spam and group fraud right now - I reckon the solution is to roll the MPP out to another 2 billion potential users right now, overnight!'?
What kind of management communicates the reality in a drip-drip of obscurely buried and ambiguous comments on certain articles, or private disclosures to a select few? What kind of rank cowardice is that? On a platform whose very purpose is communication.
Sadly, they've messed up so badly they don't even deserve to come back from this. And if they don't, they will take what was a great platform and a great community down with them.
The platform may survive. Its reputation, however, is beyond salvation, I fear.
And that's without even mentioning the shameless and odious Trump appeasement they chose to post the other day regarding Jimmy Carter's funeral.
