Maybe there is some fundamental tech constraint why it can't be done. Maybe we can blame Evan and copy-pasted Twitter legacy code back in the old days. Or maybe someone could just sneak in there and change 'maxstringlength=200' to '=1200' and all we editors would be dancing in the streets.

Seriously, I've just been communicating with a writer about a potentially boostable piece and had to write my (admittedly slightly verbose) comment in notepad, then copy and paste it in one-line chunks into a series of 8 private notes. It really doesn't feel very 2024.
