It’s been a few weeks now since Smillew Rahcuef and Philip Ogley published a pair of articles about cult movies they hadn’t seen (and wouldn’t ever), countercultural, devil-may-care renegades that they are.

At the time I was already planning this related piece, about a title or three that I have somehow managed to get through over four decades of film-watching without ever seeing. Only now does it see the light of day.

Maybe I’ve been too embarrassed to own up to having missed out on such seminal pieces of moviemaking, works that I really should have firmly tucked under my cultural belt.

There’s also the fact that as I now actually do want to see them and file a decades-late review of Borgesian pointlessness, I’ve been trying to find them for ‘free’ on Netflix or wherever. To no avail.

So today I took the plunge and shelled out a whole €4.99 for which back in the day I could have got my cinema ticket, carton of popcorn, ice cream in the intermission, bus fare home, and still had change for a gobstopper. On…
