Oh, I'm not saying they would accept it. Though at last one of Vermont's senators ought to agree to walk the walk... But it does illustrate that even if we insist on measuring the world's resources purely by reference to a currency, they are sufficient if distributed equally to live a life which would be equivalent to that lived by the vast majority in the developed world maybe 70 years ago. Given their penchant for turning the clock back to the 1950s, maybe even the golf club bores of Surrey might feel they could stiff-upper-lip it out with a touch of their Blitz spirit. Especially if you told them that the prize was that no more of those beastly foreigners would want or need to swarm to their precious island any more.
It's also worth mentioning that the lives of the vast majority in Brazil and Turkey would be far better if resources were evenly distributed within those countries, rather than hoarded by a few self-serving kleptocrats. Especially Brazil - the 17th most unequal country in the world by Gini coefficient, with Turkey 45th (a couple of places behind the USA - lookin' at you, Vermont...).
