Rather like Vietnam for the USA about 50% of all Spanish movies since the Transition are either directly about the Civil War, or allude to it by reference or allegory.
Still a lot of unfinished business and unresolved trauma there, which can be hard to engage with if your country hasn't been through that experience in living memory.
Vietnam references and movies make sense to a universal audience because of the relative similarities with conscription in WW2, I guess, despite the different circumstances and outcome.
But neighbour against neighbour, family against family is harder to get your head round, I think.
