Smaller pubs with boosting rights more recently included in the programme would seem to be one favoured option, purely in statistical terms - the new nommers will be keen to fill their quota of 20, but there will be less competition. That said, you can see those pubs themselves filling up with new writers every time a new 'boosting pubs' list comes out - Robin Wilding just published a new update with over 90.
And there has to be one in your chosen topics, which often isn't the case. Straight men aged under 50, for example, already have half a dozen or more closed to them by default. Which may be reasonable positive action or simply focus by the pubs, but their inclusion in the programme this early on seems a dubious decision.
