Stand By Me might be another summer nostalgia flick for many people's lists. Or perhaps many men's lists - I'm not sure it quite resonates the same way with as many women.

Obviously the complete lack of female main characters doesn't help in that regard. But a great movie about being a pre-teen, with all the freedoms and impositions, fears and dreams that entails, with a whole summer to reflect on what lies ahead.
