Thanks, Besanya. Yes, I first went to Barcelona in 1991 when it was being spruced up for the Olympics, and really wasn't a major tourist destination at all. Thirty years later, and much of the city is practically a theme park. The influencer era seems to have turbocharged the whole 'disposable culture' concept as well. I've just written another piece for A-Culturated - worth checking the pub out if you don't know it - about the difference in value of living in another country, as opposed to holidaying. That will probably be published in the next couple of days depending on their schedule.
