Thanks. I did quite like the way the beret ended up taking on a degree of protagonism and volition, as if it was making the decisions to an extent, demanding that it be transported on its journey. That angle probably has some potential. It could actually tie in with a story idea I have for a self-aware AI system, perhaps drawing data from physical objects, kind of like the patterns of data embedded in Arthur Dent - but presumably also in rocks and trees - in the Hitchhiker's Guide. Hmmm.
