That is my preference too, as writer, reader and editor. But in my first month as a nominator, I've had two submissions accepted that were 10-12 minutes.

In both cases the story needed that space to view it from different angles and provide background.

I feel that so long as that length is justified, it's fine, both for general reading and for potential boosting.
