How about: it's down to Medium to properly consider, scope and test changes, seek guidance from users before and feedback after the event.
And to clearly communicate the rationale and results of those changes.
A platform based on the power of the written word might be expected to achieve such basic communicative functions.
I would say that Medium does better than many, but far worse than it could.
