There’s zero requirement to be in your seat, buckled in and locked into place “before some takeoff or landing.” There’s legroom and fewer rules. You can walk from car to car to stretch your legs all day and feel like an adult with agency and options.

The advantages of the formalities and structure in rail travel are huge. Air travel is, for me, a succession of inconveniences, frustrations, choke points, minor panics, schlepping about, being bossed around and hassled.
Give me a train any time, wherever feasible.
