The thing is that Tony has shown absolutely no willingness to play the diplomat.

If you remember, when there was an earnings fiasco in August or September (?) 2023, and 'growth hacking', i.e. community interaction, was blamed he commented 'I will let someone more diplomatic than me explain the details'.

He simply doesn't see diplomacy as part of his job. So long as he keeps his mouth shut and lets someone more skilled do the talking (e.g. Scott), that's fine.

But he has now decided to wade into the comments constantly - thereby also indicating that he is rattled - with the aim of insulting, belittling, goading writers.

It's worth bearing in mind that this same 'echo chamber' are the people who provided at least half the speakers at both the Medium Days. It wasn't 95% readers or data scientists there. It was the likes of Michelle Teheux, Debra Harman, the skilled, sensitive, human writers that the platform asked to be the public face of its 'Better Internet'.

And to whom Tony is now saying - 'Fuck off - you're a dispensable little shit'.
