The thing with school shootings is that for whatever reason, the majority of the US electorate turn up every four years to grasp a pencil in their cold, morally dead hands and put their cross in the box marked 'More school shootings, please - we love 'em!'

Even the revered St Obama of Yes-we-can-land didn't seem to make much of an impression on that quaint national foible.
