This is a good point. Actively commissioning pieces of specific relevance and topicality, and being able to draw on a range of voices to round out a theme in orchestration, would make a big difference to any Medium publication, and go a long way towards guaranteeing its status in the mind of readers.

But it surely involves far more effort than simply waiting for pieces to come to you.
