This is etymologically interesting, as 'scousers', or Liverpudlians, get their name from the stew 'scouse', an abbreviation of 'lobscouse', originally the Scandinavian 'lapskaus', commonly eaten by Northern European sailors, hence its popularity in the port of Liverpool.
I guess potters from Stoke would have been sending their wares for export via Liverpool, so I guess the name comes from that connection.
