This is one of the key messages of this story, I feel. The US population has been persuaded that its health system is somehow normal or acceptable, and through familiarity, that it must be the only way.

When for the rest of the world the whole point of economic development is to provide (1) sufficient food for all, (2) health provision for all, and (3) education for all, to a level that will allow further economic development.

The world's richest nation can by those principles only be seen as a monumental failure, like a lottery winner that blows their millions and is left with nothing to show for their wealth.
