This is - or will be - an issue in my field of translation. The more that translators spend their time post-editing machine translation, the rustier - and more trusting/lazy/'disgruntled at poorer pay and working conditions so what the hell, let it slide'.
But crucially, the next generation of translators won't actually learn the task of translation, the process of analysing L1 text from the bottom up, and rendering it effectively in L2.
They will be restorers, not painters, and their lesser output will then be fed back into the machine.
