This line was originally 'I'm off out for a fag', i.e. 'cigarette' in British slang.

But as Mark pointed out in the editing process, it has a very different meaning for a US reader, so I had to come up with an alternative.

Typical - I never use rigid rhyme and metre schemes in poems, and the one time I do, I suddenly have to come up with a rhyme for -ag.

A real drag. Except I'd already used that.

'Gulag' doesn't scan in iambic trimeter. But what the hell.

It's just a silly poem.
