This piqued my interest, as I like both Elvis Costello and Brilliant Disguise (one of maybe half a dozen Springsteen songs in my master playlist).
But I have to say I really didn't see the point of it. If Costello were a country artist it would make sense to cover it in that style. Or if it were originally a country song.
But that felt rather gimicky, like a late-night improv session where Elvis Costello asks one person in the audience to call out a genre, and another a song title.
Maybe he should have done it as a duet with Josie Lawrence.
I'll stick with the original.
A Good Year for the Roses is fantastic, however.
I'll check the others out later - looking forward to the Emmylou Harris one.
