Umbrella was unfortunate to enter the English language before it was in the collective hands of corporate marketing departments (though you would have expected a more competent grasp of basic Latin back then).

It should have been designated the Raintamer or Dedrizzlifier. With actual parasols also getting a cooler name, like Suncrusher or Rayshield.

That way everyone would have been easily convinced to buy one of each to keep in their multipurpose Meteozapper stand by the front door, and no one would think twice about it.
