Barbarella is maybe another one that has followed an unusual curve between the cult/classic/mainstream camps (very camp in this case).

As I understand it was a popular success on release (presumably thanks to the way it showcased Jane Fonda's unquestionable talents...), but was critically panned. Then faded into obscurity, before being revived by the 1970s sci-fi wave, and the 1980s interest of a bunch of art school students with a synthpop group who adopted Dr. Durand Durand's name.

Where on the spectrum does it stand now, I wonder.
