We grew cress, and made bread, then had cress sandwiches created with the fruits of our labour.

That was the most fulfilling and memorable single thing in my whole educational experience, right through university.

If I were ever to devise a curriculum (and if I have a long enough retirement to do all the required research I might, or at least come up with a skeleton to pass on to more experienced educators to flesh out into something viable, the tricky final stage that meddling education ministers always forget), I would aim to have as much as possible taught that way: linking up subjects, teaching them through project and experimentation, and making sure they have a tangible or emotive outcome for all the students.
