Well-intentioned plans to provide an economic boost can so often lead to unintended consequences that populists can exploit. Portugal seems to have been among the most welcoming countries in this sphere of golden visas and digital nomads. As with cruise ship tourism for example, I think it's important to analyse how much of a benefit this actually brings for the local economy, but also how much of a negative social impact it can have if people feel they are being displaced or priced out of their home region.
